Cornucopia is the Spanish word for the wall mirrors used in the baroque in order to reflect the light of a candle magnifying its brightness.
The design sets out to reinterpret the direct interaction of the body with the lamp, creating a contemporary analogy of the act of lighting a candle. The Edison bulb therefore acts as a surrogate of the candle, reminding us, in its present obsolescence, of the coming and going of technologies through time.
Cornucopia is the first of a series of lamp designs in which the constituting elements of the artifact are reduced to a minimum, and its relationships become evident in a playful rereading of an everyday object. In this case, the three essential components (negative and positive poles and an insulator), together with the bulb which acts both as light source and switch, become substance and shape of the product.
